#1:Jared Kushner said he was too busy with the Middle East to challenge Trump on his doomed effort to overturn the election: book

Pence's chief of staff asked Kushner to challenge Trump on his doomed effort to overturn the election, according to a new book.
Trump was obsessed with the false notion that Pence could overturn the results, the book said.
Kushner said he was too busy with the Middle East to talk to Trump.
Jared Kushner told Vice President Mike Pence's chief of staff, Marc Short, that he was too busy focusing on the Middle East to challenge President Donald Trump on his unprecedented effort to overturn the 2020 election results, according to a new book by ABC News correspondent Jonathan Karl.
After losing the 2020 election, Trump effectively threw Pence under the bus by falsely suggesting that the vice president could unilaterally upend the results when Congress gathered to certifying the Electoral College vote on January 6. Despite statements from Trump to the contrary, Pence did not have the power to do this. Vice presidents preside over the Electoral College certification process, but it's a largely ceremonial role.
The baseless notion that Pence had the power to overturn the election had become a "Trump obsession, and Marc Short wanted Kushner to convince the president that the idea was nothing but a fantasy, Karl wrote in the forthcoming book, "Betrayal: The Final Act of the Trump Show."
Karl said that Short believed Kushner was intelligence enough to understand Trump was "flat-out wrong." Privately, the president's son-in-law was telling people he knew that Trump lost the election, Karl wrote, and he was aware Pence couldn't do anything to change that.
"Please talk to the president," Short said to Kushner during a phone call, per Karl. "He listens to you. Explain to him that the vice president's role in counting electoral votes is entirely ceremonial. He has no power whatsoever to reject any state's electoral votes."
According to the book, Kushner responded, "You know, I'm really focused on the Middle East right now," adding, "I haven't really been involved in the election stuff since Rudy Giuliani came in."
Short implored Kushner to intervene, underscoring that this is a "big problem," Karl wrote. "The president is being misled. Please talk to him."
Kushner replied that he really didn't want to get involved, Karl said, stating that his "focus is on Middle East peace."
Over the course of the Trump era, Kushner was intricately involved in the administration's Middle East policy.
Kushner spearheaded the Trump administration's "peace plan" for the Middle East. But Kushner's roadmap for peace involved no consultation with Palestinian leaders. Critics of the plan dismissed it as a PR stunt for then-Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a close ally of Trump's, to boost his chances in an impending election. Palestinian leaders rejected the plan.
Kushner also helped broker the Abraham Accords. The UAE and Bahrain formalized diplomatic ties with Israel via the landmark accords in September 2020. Two more Arab countries, Morocco and Sudan, joined the Abraham Accords shortly after.

Adaptive driving beams are finally going to be legal in the U.S.

#1:Adaptive driving beams are finally going to be legal in the U.S

. Listen up, America. Adaptive driving beams are finally going to become legal, thanks to a provision in the infrastructure bill. This is great news for nighttime driving safety — your author is particularly excited that this technology will finally be legal in cars sold in the U.S.
In case you need a refresher, adaptive driving beams are fully explained in this story here. But in short, they’re the trick headlights we see in many European cars that can adapt their high beam illumination based on the surrounding environment. The system uses cameras and sensors to pick out other cars on the road, and is able to trace a perfect darkened opening for the other cars, while still throwing out high beam-like light everywhere else. It’ll also darken the illumination of road signs as you approach them so as not to dazzle the driver with a bright reflection. There’s potential for much more, too, as some manufacturers have designed headlights that can project warning signs onto pavement, swivel up to highlight pedestrians entering the road and more.

So, how has this tech finally found a path to legality? For years it’s been barred due to outdated regulations in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108. The exact language that held manufacturers back specifically states that headlights must have a dedicated low beam and dedicated high beam to be compliant and road legal. The new infrastructure bill changes that by laying out the following in a headlamps section: “to allow for the use on vehicles of adaptive driving beam headlamp systems.”
This request comes in the form of a direction to amend FMVSS No. 108 to include the adaptive driving beams provision, and the bill allows for two years to get it done. So yes, we could theoretically be waiting another two years, but no longer than that.
In addition to making adaptive driving beams legal, the infrastructure bill also says that testing of headlight performance will now be required. It doesn’t go much further than that, but we suspect it’ll resemble the headlight testing currently done by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The Most Disgusting Thing’: Minnesota Teen Scared to Return to School After Being Taunted by Fellow Student She’d Exposed for Posting a Racist Video

#1:The Most Disgusting Thing’: Minnesota Teen Scared to Return to School After Being Taunted by Fellow Student She’d Exposed for Posting a Racist Video

“I’m at a loss of words for what they’ve done,” Nya Sigin, a Minnesota teenager said earlier this week after a now-viral video showed a fellow student at Prior Lake High School in Savage, Minnesota, engaging in racist behavior, targeting her and her sister Elizabeth Sigin.
“It was just the most disgusting thing I’ve ever witness in my entire life,” the freshman told KSTP of one of the many videos that reportedly were shared on social media, including one where the student encouraged Nya to end her life while hurling racist attacks at her. “I was feeling I was confused. I didn’t really know what I had done to even deserve it,” the girl said.
The sisters say the conflict began when a girl, who has not been named, recorded a video of herself attacking a pillow that featured the N-word inscribed on it. “She beat up the pillow while calling the pillow racial slurs, pretending as if the pillow was a Black person,” her sister Elizabeth, a senior at the school, said.

Nya said another classmate shared the video with her earlier this week, telling the outlet that when she initially “saw the video, I hadn’t really processed everything that was going on.” she added, “I was hearing the words but yesterday I was in my counselor’s office, and I was really talking about it to them, and that’s when it all really hit me and how personal it was to me. That was just really hard because I just had this wave of emotions.”
The teens said when they spoke out about the disturbing clip, more videos were created, appearing to target the siblings specifically. The young girl — who said she suffers from depression and anxiety — told reporters just months after she was released from an inpatient hospital following a bout with a mental health issue, another video began circulating.
“You dark ass n–ger,” the outlet reported the student said in the video. “You dark ass chocolate bar. Get the f-ck out of here. No one likes n–gers. No one likes them. F-cking kill yourself right this time. Do it f-cking right. Cut deep enough this time, or f-cking tie the rope higher. Like, what the f-ck.”
The school sent out a letter to parents on Wednesday, Nov. 11, with Principal John Bezek telling staff and families that Prior Lake “does not tolerate racism or hate speech.”
Superintendent Dr. Teri Stalock revealed that “An investigation into the students involved with the video is underway and we will take appropriate action. We remain focused on our priority of providing safe, supportive and inclusive learning environments for all students.”
“I want to see them hold these people accountable,” Elizabeth told KSTP. “It’s already hard enough being in such a predominantly white area as a Black family, and as Black women, it makes it so much harder for us. I really just want to see my school do something about this video and give real consequences to the students who are involved.”
Still despite an overwhelming amount of support from peers, Nya remains uncertain what her days at the high school will look like, telling FOX9, “I really can’t imagine what the next four years are going to look like, and it scares me. It really does scare me to have to go through this.” She added, “No one should ever have to go through this, especially regarding the color of their skin.”
The Savage Police Department are also looking into the situation as it is illegal to encourage someone to commit suicide in the state of Minnesota.
